I was gonna post this in the "War on Syria" thread because something I posted last night in that thread I started to reconsider after listening to something interesting on talk radio. It was regarding killing Assad and making it look like an accident. Yes, Assad is bad, but killing him could make things worse, and would probably even scare the crap out of Syrians who hate him with every fibre of their being.
This is an interview with British historian who talks about rumours among the British public from the 1500s until today, and the most pervasive rumour was one about the death or illness of a leader.
In the 1500s: Where is the king? Is he OK?
During WWII: Where is Winston Churchill? Is he OK?
This rumour has been consistent throughout history. Because the death of a leader can mean political instability.
You could I guess also tie rumours about Hillary Clinton's health that came out during the US election campaign. Maybe that swayed voters who, may have hated Trump and even preferred Hillary, but were more scared of political instability resulting if she died in office (even though the US does have a clear line of succession, making it better equipped than most countries to deal with such an event).

Never exactly heard of such phenomenon. There's a lot excitement that goes around (negative and wonder) when there is potential that a leader could die. It could trigger a quick serious of actions that could take place afterwards, both national and international. Obviously Before globalization it wouldn't be as much as a treat as it is today because of all the communication availability as well as the heavy and quick transportation and nuclear weaponary that are available today.

soul49: I can definitely see this forum is dead. Do people still chat in other areas? I've been very busy over the past year with university work and other stuff, but would be cool to catch up with folks on occasion. Just know I'm still alive lol.
