There's a thread like this on AS, but wanted members on this forum to share some insight about this topic as well. Some that immediately come to mind for me:
"I'm as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer"
-From "Rhythm is a Dancer" by Snap
(Pretty self-explanatory imo)
"The wild dogs cry out in the night,
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company,
I know that I must do what's right,
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti."
-From "Africa" by Toto
(First of all, the expression "solitary company" makes no damn sense and why the heck would you compare Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa to Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece, also why pick Greece's mountain in the first place? Seems totally random. Never have lyrics felt so awkwardly forced.)
"We're heading for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
'Cause maybe they've seen us (seen us)"
-From "The Final Countdown" by Europe
(Of course, the reference to Venus/why they would be going there is never explained, nor is who "they" are and it is never mentioned again)
"In the desert you can remember your name, for there ain’t no-one for to give you no pain"
-From "A Horse with No Name" by America
(Only explanation I see here is, drugs make you think you sound like a genius when you just make no damn sense)
"The old man spoke up in a bar
Said I never been in prison
A lifetime serving one machine
Is ten times worse than prison"
-From "Bankrobber" by The Clash
(OK, I love the Clash, but seriously? Someone who has never had first hand experience in what being in prison is like is going to claim working one job your entire life is not two, not three, but TEN times worse than being in prison? Have you ever heard of people actually liking their jobs? I know Norwegian prisons are notoriously comfy, but I don't think that's what was implied here)
"Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no."
-From "MacArthur Park" written by Jimmy Webb, performed by Richard Harris
(Really, I mean really?)
Feel free to share other "gems" on this entertaining topic.
