Now, I am not a communist, but I don't think capitalism is all that great either, and some anti-communism arguments are complete BS.
They say people have no freedom under communism but.
Under capitalism we have to organize our lives around our work schedules so we have to:
- Go to bed when we're not tired
- Get up when we're not rested
- Eat when we're not hungry
- Suck it up when we're sick
- Have free or family time when we get home and are too tired to do anything so we park in front of the TV and watch it together
But but but... people in communist countries had to stand in line for food that might not even be there!
Oh, but when I go to the grocery store, I have to stand in a long ass line to pay for my food, because in order to maximize profits, the company that runs the supermarket only has 2 cash registers open... or more recently, self-checkouts and you have to wait behind non-tech savvy old people who have no clue WTF they're doing. Supermarket shelves can also get pretty bare sometimes in the winter if we have lots of snowstorms that hinder shipments to the stores.
People didn't have nice houses under communism!
Fair point, if you're rich, that sucks. However, those drab apartments from the USSR are a lot nicer than the ones many poor people in capitalist countries live in. My first few years out of university, when I was just getting established, the apartment I lived in was an old colonial house, of a man who used to sell slaves (slavery was illegal in Canada at the time the house was built, but they could still sell them to Americans), and my apartment was the old slave quarters. I don't believe in ghosts or stuff like that, but some superstitious friends said that they felt negative energy in there and thought it could be haunted. Also, because it was the slave quarters, there was no way out. If there was ever a fire, I'd have been a goner.
And yeah, people under communism likely have the same regimented schedules, and not much freedom, but the same could be said about capitalism is all I'm sayin'.
