I am like, totally lactose intolerance, and it sucks, because I love me some dairy, but I have become interested in variations among different populations.
One thing I find interesting is this: Why are most African-Americans lactose intolerant, while most people from the parts of Africa their ancestors came from not?
There is variation in other groups. I am a French-Canadian and most of us are lactose intolerant, while most people from France are not. Some claim it is because of indigenous admixture, but I am not sure since not all of us do (plus, for any people, we are talking ancestry way back) however, if you look at France on that map specifically, the so-called "Olive Oil/Butter Line" cuts right through the middle of the country, and most French-Canadians have ancestry from below that line. French-Canadian cuisine is also more like the cuisine of Southern France than Northern France... more spices, and olive oil. Though indigenous influences are apparent.

soul49: I can definitely see this forum is dead. Do people still chat in other areas? I've been very busy over the past year with university work and other stuff, but would be cool to catch up with folks on occasion. Just know I'm still alive lol.
