Deputy Foreign Minister Joanna Wronecka has said that in the past year Poland increased aid for Syrian refugees in the Middle East.
In an interview with the IAR news agency, Wronecka said that in providing humanitarian aid, the government works with NGOs and Polish embassies, which provide direct assistance in the designated countries.
In addition, Poland contributes funds for international organisations specialising in providing assistance to Syrian refugees. This year, the number of appropriations for this purpose increased almost fourfold.
“If we compare this with 2015, when we dedicated exactly PLN 12.8 million for a humanitarian package in the Middle East, that is assistance to Syria in neighbouring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Kurdistan in Iraq, while this year we managed to give more than PLN 46 million,” she said.
Poland’s response to the migration crisis also comes in the form of a payment of EUR 3 million to the EU MADAD Fund and around EUR 16.5 million contributed to the Turkish Instrument for Refugees. The government also implements a joint programme with Germany.
"We decided to get involved in Lebanon and rebuild schools that will serve Syrian refugees residing there. This project is valued at EUR 3 million, and every year we will make a contribution in the form of EUR 1 million,” Wronecka added.
Due to the extremely difficult situation in Syria, an idea has been put forward for a humanitarian corridor for refugees in the country. This effectively means transport of people in danger to safe areas.

Poland is not a rich country, so we will not be able to provide the sort of money Germany or France does. It is also important that the majority of Poles support solutions to help Syrians inside Syria and in neighbouring states, btu are in general opposed to mass migration from the middle east to the EU.
