This comment comes from an anti-capitalist subreddit so of course it will be biased against it, but it's a really good perspective IMO. First of all, I have to say, I'm not against capitalism, I'm aware nothing has reduced global poverty more than this, I'm against unrestrained capitalism, that one has found a way to control the government, the one thrives on keeping poverty levels the way they are, and in the US, keeping racial tensions the way they are. These people have too much power in their hands.
The Black working class and the White working class (along with other races/backgrounds) face the same problems. But the government, the politicians, the media, the capitalists push racism in order to divide us. White people, Black people, Asian people, we're too busy fighting amongst each other. When we need to be working together to dismantle capitalism.
Look at this photo, from way back in the day.
Look at this one.
Doesn't matter if you're from whitebread coal country Pennsylvania, urban Detroit, Southern California, wherever the fuck. It's not those Black workers who are ripping you off. It's not the Muslims fleeing fundamentalist, theocratic regimes that are ripping you off. Who owns the factories? Who owns the land? Who gives the most money to the politicians?
For the past forty years, we've been working more, earning less, going into more and more debt. Unemployment has gone up, wages have remained flat, how do the people in charge make sure people keep spending money, keep the economy going? Credit. Loans, credit cards. They say you need to get an education to get a good job, but it's so expensive, you gotta take out a student loan. Who controls that? Who makes the money there? It's not the other sad sacks of shit who are in the same position you are in.
You want to work a simple factory job, they're all overseas buddy, who sent them there? The workers didn't close down those factories. The politicians tell you, "we're gonna bring the jobs back!" They sent them over in the first place! They don't listen to you, they tell you what you wanna hear. They tell you to blame anybody, everybody else. We do live in a system where money is everything. Money talks. Everyone knows it, everyone says it, politicians are greedy and corrupt. But the culture also laughs at the poor rural whites, the poor urban Blacks, the poor Asian shopkeeps. But then, why are we all going at each other then, when we're not the ones kicking up those checks to DC? You been hoodwinked, you've been conned.
This is why we need to build anti-racism alongside the class struggle. Nobody's is going to get along to work towards a common goal if they're at each other's throats. But this is deliberately being pushed upon all of us. Racism might be the greatest tool used to stymie the anti-capitalist movement.
Now this is a good talk, but you want practical solutions? You wanna know what you can do? Well, stick around, and you'll find out. In the mean time, we have resources on the sidebar. Books, articles, lectures. Here's a good start: github.com/dessalines/essays/blob/master/crash_course_socialism.md
