Thought this deserved a thread... because the songs are used for messages that are the opposite of the actual message of the song.
These songs were used in Donald Trump's campaign.
Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister is a hardcore lefty. This song is a critique of right-wing, conservative America, which at the time, was trying to censor heavy metal (heavy metal is, from its origins, left-wing music, coming from traditionally Labour-voting working class areas of England).
This song was also used by Trump... Neil Young threatened to sue. He's a lefty
Pretty much anything Bruce Springsteen has been appropriated by the right, but he is a hardcore lefty... this even comes out pretty clear in the lyrics of his songs, which often talk about the problems in the Rust Belt states. He was critiquing neoliberalism 20 years before anybody knew what the word meant.
This song, has been appropriated by the right. It's an anti-racist song, against segregation in the South... but racists love it
Metallica was often features at Stephen Harper campaign rallies in Canada. Ironic because Metallica has had many critiques of war and hawkish foreign policy in their lyrics, and Harper was very hawkish. This video I think is their best critique of Western military intervention.
Metallica actually sued the US government for their music being used to torture prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.
This song was used by the New Zealand National Party. Eminem sued them. Eminem is actually quite political, and definitely not right-wing.
Paul Ryan listed Rage Against the Machine as his favourite band. The members of the band pretty much said that their music is against people like him. Rage is probably the most leftist band ever lol
Depeche Mode. Richard Spencer said they were the "official band of the alt-right". Depeche Mode told him to fuck off. They're obviously lefties.
Probably pretty much all music. Right-wingers are by their very nature, not creative. All the most brilliant people throughout history have been leftist.
